Music Collective Amsterdam

The Music Collective Amsterdam [MCA] emerged from the shared artistic vision of a group of musicians based in Amsterdam. Driven by a desire to bring freshness, versatility, and a contemporary outlook to classical music, they founded an ensemble rooted in both artistic excellence and innovation.

 

Reflecting the cosmopolitan spirit of its home city, MCA embodies the cultural richness and diversity of its members. Their international backgrounds and broad artistic influences shape the ensemble’s programming and philosophy, with cross-pollination of ideas at the heart of its musical identity.

 

MCA reimagines major orchestral works through newly crafted arrangements for smaller forces, uncovering unexpected timbres and delivering vivid, transparent, engaging interpretations of the classical repertoire. The ensemble’s flexible formation allows for a wide range of configurations, from classical symphonies arranged for 10 musicians to more intricate “miniature orchestra” versions of works by Mahler - a central composer in their repertoire - performed with 17 players.

 

Its members hold key positions in all of the Netherlands’ leading orchestras, including the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. MCA’s musicians also perform regularly on some of the world’s most renowned stages, such as the Concertgebouw [Amsterdam], Philharmonie [Paris], Musikverein [Vienna], Berliner Philharmonie [Berlin], Carnegie Hall [New York], Teatro Colón [Buenos Aires], Teatro alla Scala [Milan], Elbphilharmonie [Hamburg], and the Kennedy Center [Washington].
